Seat treat
I recently read the June/July issue of HANDY cover-to-cover while my family was on a cruise to the Bahamas. During a stop at a port in Nassau, we visited the Nassau Public Library and Museum. It’s a very old structure that was originally built as a jail in 1797, so there are many interesting artifacts inside; however, I was most excited by this plank chair that we came across on the third-floor veranda. Our curator had no idea how old the chair was, but it appeared to have weathered more than one hurricane in its lifetime — hence the missing arm. It reminded me of the early Adirondack chair or “plank” chair featured in the June/July HISTORIES department.

Planter plans
I made four window boxes based on the plans featured in “Little Gardens” in the May/June 2006 issue of HANDY. I added a few enhancements: landscape fabric on the inside and decorative appliqués on the outside. Thank you for the great plans; they were easy to follow and didn’t require much lumber.
