Highlighting The Latest Innovations In Portable Illuminators

Thrice As Nice
MSRP
: $30

Not many DIYers enjoy squeezing into an under-sink cabinet, but my recent encounter with this uncomfortable locale was brightened (literally) by Stanley’s new 3-in-1 Tripod LED Flashlight.

As I shimmied under my sink to tighten a loose and leaky pipe connection, the light stood on its tripod, so I was able to use both of my hands for the job. I was also able to tilt the flashlight’s three adjustable heads in different directions for precise lighting in the cramped space.

When I finished tightening the loose connection, I pulled out one of the individual hand-held flashlights so I could make sure the other nearby pipes and connections were secure — and that I wouldn’t have to squeeze under my sink for more repairs any time soon. Stanley, 800-262-2161.

Here are a few other innovative flashlights fit for DIYers:

Two-Setting Technology
MSRP: $50

Kobalt’s 3-Watt High Intensity LED Tactical Flashlight features high-energy lithium batteries that have a 10-year shelf life. Users can select high and low brightness levels to suit the needs of different jobs and conserve the battery’s energy. Kobalt, 800-445-6937 (Lowe’s).

Durable Device
MSRP
: $129

The E1L flashlight, part of SureFire’s Outdoorsman Series, is made of aerospace-grade aluminum that features a hard anodized finish to withstand extreme elements and years of wear-and-tear. For even greater durability, the flashlight also features O-ring seals to keep out moisture and dirt, a Pyrex window to protect the LED and a lock-out tail cap that prevents accidental activation. SureFire, 800-828-8809.

Insightful Illumination
MSRP: $25

Featuring TruBeam Technology, the new Duracell Daylite uses a lens and reflector to capture, focus and project more light than traditional LED and incandescent flashlights. The TruBeam system delivers a brighter, whiter light and even eliminates the dreaded dark spot produced by most flashlight beams. Duracell, 800-551-2355.

I recieved one as a Christmas gift. Originally I thought it was the flashlight version of a "tie". I have completely changed my opinion. This flashlight is very adaptable to most all lighting needs. Wouldn't give it up now!
