Versatile Portable Lights
MSRP: $29.99 and up

Online Rating: (0/10)

Energizer is a brand best known for batteries, but it recently launched a new line of unique lighting products, including a desk lamp, a few tabletop lamps, a wall-outlet lamp, a motion-activated lamp and a cordless wall sconce. Each of these new products in the Light on Demand line is built around a removable light stick that features rechargeable AA battery packs and LED lights. The light sticks can be used plugged into their product base, or removed and used as a cordless light. Also, many of the lamps operate as emergency lights, turning on automatically in the event of a power failure.

These lamps aren’t as bright as a standard hard-wired light fixture, but they do provide sufficient light to find things in a dark space. For example, I installed the Motion Light ($29.99) in my unlit hall closet, on the shelf where I keep medicines and first aid supplies. I used to have to pull packages out to identify them, but now the light comes on when I open the door and I can clearly see where everything is on the shelf. The motion light stays on for five minutes and then turns off. I can also carry the light stick around and use it as portable lantern for up to five hours on a charge.

With the Twin Light Center ($44.99), I also made a significant upgrade to the old rechargeable flashlight that I had plugged in my kitchen. It’s got two removable lamps (one of which also operates as a surprisingly bright flashlight that will run for up to 10 hours on a charge), a built-in night light and an emergency light (both lamps turn on when the power goes out).

Another great feature of these lamps is that you can remove and replace the rechargeable battery packs with standard AA batteries, which will provide even longer run times. This feature makes them perfect for camping or at any other location that’s off the grid.
