I found these tips while reading my latest issue of "Mother Earth News" magazine. Using Waste Paint: Whenever I have a little enamel paint left over in the bottom of a bucket, I use it to coat the inside of my wheel-barrow to keep it from rusting. From Joe Plaugh of Columbia, South Carolina Slick Firewood Solution: I have a friend that can use this idea from Scott Hoffman of Hanover, Pennsylvania. He uses an aluminum slide from a child's discarded swing set to slide firewood down the steps to his basement wood furnace. "Oldman"

It is my belief that a water based paint will only add to the rust problem. Bill Glendora, California 91741

Bill, Oldman didn't say what type of enamel but I don''t think I'd use latex on the wheel barrow either. Whenever I have leftover latex paint, I just mix them together for the ugly fence. Keeps the neighbors entertained that way.

General Paints (if you have one in your area) sells a great product called HAMMERITE which is typically used on bridges stretching over waterways. The end finish is strong and looks like hammered metal. I used it on an old metal mop pail and it lasted years without rusting through.

Oldman,
I also am an old TMEM from back in the 70's. I missed a chance to become a mother lifer but still subscribe to the magazine. I have all my copies back to No.44 when I first picked up a copy in a drug store. I have learned many things from the magazine that has helped me to leave the earth a little better than when I first got here. I was hoping that my library of the old editions would eventually be worth money till CD's came along. Oh Well!
