One thing I've noticed about this HCOA 'HANDY' web site is that ANYTIME THEY DO ANY CHANGES OR 'MAINTENANCE' to the software, EVERYTHING RUNS IN SUPER S-L-O-O-O-W MOTION (often taking a minute or longer for a new 'screen redraw' to take place. Posting a message once you hit the 'post' icon can take up to 2-3 minutes.

If you ever get an 'error message' on the HANDY web site, CLOSE YOUR BROWSER and reopen it again to access the HANDY web site..... then AVOID THE AREA you got the 'error message' on.

I've noticed that during the last couple of months, many of our 'old regulars' aren't posting as frequently as they use to do so. I think all the SLOWNESS and 'errors' that still exist on the web site since the BIG UPGRADE 2 YEARS AGO, are one of the main reasons for this. I'm running a relatively new laptop at 2.8 GHz with a 1 GB RAM that is 'instantaneous' on most web sites and the HANDY web site runs if SLOW-MOTION comparitively. Even on 'good days', it still takes the HANDY web site at least 15-20 seconds to redraw a 'new page' display. Has anyone else noticed the same things lately. Also, "Handy Andy" seems to have disappeared from the forums.... he hasn't posted in several months now. Maybe, he quit or had a 'nervous breakdown' from all the 'stress'. LOL

I had this problem last night, but everything seems to be working fine now.  Give it another shot.

Anyone else having problems entering the Great Give-Away contest tonight?  The other seems to be working slow.  I had to click enter to win 4 times before anything happened.

This morning the contests don't work. They do However appear on the North American Hunter's club site. You still can't enter, but, that's where they went. NICE JOB I.T. guys.

The IT people for these clubs have screwed up royally again. The Handyman contests are still showing up on the North American Hunter site. You can't enter the contests for either site right now. Really weird.

Yep, two days of errors when trying to enter contest. Their webmaster needs to talk with his 6 year old and fix it

I have tried ever spot there is on the site but get the error on the Great Giveaway. You would think the webmaster would try to fix the problem.

Do you REALLY THINK they can actually afford a REAL WEBMASTER????

They had a 'HCOA ANDY' for awhile keeping us updated on web site updates, but he DISAPPEARED MONTHS AGO.
HCOA ANDY has not been on, or checked the forum postings, since 29 July 2009.

I think most of us 'regulars' have learned to be content..... as long as the TALK FORUMS are working properly -
ANYTHING ELSE WORKING IS JUST A BONUS

Don't they have people that work the web page??? This happens more

often than I care for.  What kind of "Error" is it anyway??  Someone

not doing their job or on vacation or what?   I haven't been able to get

on this time for days now.

Maybe this is why they are trying to start the "Master" Lifetime member

to get more money out of us.  They got all they will get from me.

I found as of  Friday 10/23/09 the Great Giveaway links do not work and take you to a page that states "an unexpected error has occured". I spent over a half hour on Saturday calling the club to see if they knew there was a problem, and to find out if they knew when it might be fixed. Can you guess what answer I got? They said they were working on it and to try again later. I also noticed that the readers poll on the home page is not registering any responses to the "I am always busy with projects" response. I know this because I was the second person to respond to the poll, but my answer was listed in the line above. The person on the phone acted like either they didn't care if there was a problem, or fixing this was a verry low priority problem to them. I wonder how they will award the Great Giveaway prizes if this is not fixed? Seems like any prize awarded would not be fair if noone has been able to enter since Friday.

Maybe they could hire a handyman to fix it. I know this problem exists with two of their clubs. I imagine it is the same with all of them. Maybe they need everyone to go for that "Master" life member thing to pay for a real web administrator.

I haven't been able to enter great giveaway for several days now--same message -- 'error appears-try again'. Don't think they want to give it away or can't find the problem--are they looking??

Still a problem with contests. I don't think their webmaster is checking the sites. They need to hire a kid to get it fixed.

Well, for over an hour this morning I was unable to even get to the site. I would get message stating "Server error site can't be found". Eventually when I was able to get to site and logged in, the Great Giveaway now goes to a page that only has an enter button and nothing else. Seems to get an entry, but to what I am not sure.

Have any of you contacted Handyman directly?  Two days ago I did and

I told them some things, - contest was one.  I'm glad it is back finally.  This

is something other "Lifetime member" clubs have trouble with also.  Handy

is not the only one.  I think after they get our money they don't care about

us as much.

Not only was I able to enter the Great Giveaway contest, but I was also able to enter the Click & Win contest directly from the Great Giveaway confirmation page. It used to take me to a link for the old Click & Win contest that expired in July and required a seperate Login. Could the Club have actually fixed the contests finally?

They had it WORKING FINE YESTERDAY, but weren't content to LEAVE IT ALONE..... they had to KEEP MESSING WITH IT UNTIL THEY BROKE IT AGAIN.  I was already LOGGED IN (according to the box next to 'Search' saying LOG OUT), BUT HAD TO 'LOG IN' TWICE TO ENTER THE CONTEST TODAY.

I thing sometimes that some of the things on this HCOA web site might be candidates for the "World's Dumbest" reality TV program.

Yep, it's "dead" again. the page tries to load and tries and tries and tries and tries, and gets nowhere....

It's a hopeless situation.

Why do I bother?
I'm not on the sellected winner's list, not even for a messily two dollar item. LOL!

IMHO, the best part of the forum is the interaction with other members.

Still a little "bonus" would be nice.....

HCOA, you reading this? LOL!

Gerry, not that it does any good, but I sent a memo off to staff last night about how slack they have been in reading this forum and solving issues, as well as a few extra gripes.  Of course I haven't heard anything back yet.

What Now?  As of thismorning there are NO links that will get you to any contest page. They all take you back to the log in page. Every thing was OK yesterday. I guess you need to find out who is trying to "fix" things and fire them and replace them with anyone who can get the job done without creating many new problems.

I just tried to add a reply to this post and it would not work so I will add as an edit

I just tried to enter contests again(about 2 hours later) and all seems to be OK now. Now if only whoever keeps messing things up would leave things alone unless there IS a problem everyone woule have a better experience.

Well, I can tell THEY ARE MESSING WITH THE HCOA PROGRAMMING AGAIN..... everything is FUBAR again. It took almost a minute for this reply window to load and when I tried to enter the contests for the last 3 days, it kept looping to a "Sign In to enter contests" page, but wouldn't accept my log-in and kept looping back on itself again and again.

Today, after reading Bob's reply, I tried again and couldn't log-in again - had a new page display though. Finally, I went to MY ACCOUNT, and used EDIT to resubmit my MEMBER #, and it finally ACCEPTED BY ENTRY TO BOTH CONTESTS AGAIN. If you're still having problems with ENTERING ANY CONTEST, you might want to try doing the same thing.... it's the ONLY THING THAT WORKED FOR ME.
